Seafood supplier West Country Catch was formed in 2013 by Tim & Lou Edwards and were originally based in a small unit in Dorchester. As their business grew they needed larger premises, in 2017 they moved into a spacious unit in Link Park, Weymouth.
Tim is a trained chef, but disliking the hours retrained as a fish filleter, working his way up to become the factory manager. Then in 2013 decided to bite the bullet and start their own business of selling quality fresh fish at competitive prices. Lou’s background is also in the catering industry and is the office manager & director.
Dave is their marketing manager, liaising with fisherman, buyers and restaurants. Mindy prepares all the fish, but he was on leave when I visited, so I was lucky enough to wintess just how skilled & fast Tim is at filleting hake.
They have Mark as their driver, he collects and deliveries across Dorset, Somerset & Devon, with two deliveries a week to Bristol. When needed Tim’s Father also helps out with deliveries.
They buy local fish from Weymouth, Portland & West Bay etc. They also have buyers in Brixham & Newlyn who will buy fish as instructed by Tim or Dave. This allows West Country Catch to source the best quality fish from across Dorset, Devon & Cornwall.
They had plenty of quality fresh fish during my visit, lots of Cornish hake, haddock, cod, turbot, bream, gurnard, mullet, plaice, mackerel, lemon sole, sand sole, salmon (smoked & raw), crab meat, oysters, mussels and cockles. All will be prepared to each individual restaurants requirements and delivered the same day. They also have a good stock of frozen fish & shellfish, especially large prawns (pre-cooked & raw perfect for the BBQ), langoustines and squid.
They sell mostly to the trade, restaurants etc. but they also have a small retail counter that is open between 7am to 3pm Monday to Friday. They will also prepare the fish for you, just be warned that their stock doesn’t last long and it is best to get there early before it has all been sold.
