This brand-new restaurant is just what Poole Park needs – both child-friendly and relaxing plus it’s right on the edge of the beautiful lake.

The Kitchen - Poole

After making the most of the brilliant ‘Ark in Poole Park’ with my two boys (aged 10 years and 8 years), we wandered over the newly opened ‘The Kitchen’ to check it out and grab a bite of lunch to fill our empty tummies.

Situated right by the lake, the restaurant has been cleverly crafted to have windows on 3 sides (plus ample tables outside) to make the most of the beautiful surroundings. The interior is both clean and stylishly put together with chunky wooden tables and oodles of cushions (yum).

After choosing a table, we chose our food and ordered at the bar – making the most of the wood-fired oven for pizza plus one of the children’s meals of chicken breast goujons with the necessary chips and beans (peas and salad also available). I ordered an italian meat salad with a spicy dressing. We also had the choice of a range of burgers and pies as well as vegetarian and fish dishes so there are foods to suit most palates.

The Kitchen - Poole pizza

The food is pricier than than some park cafes can be (main courses start from £7 for a pizza or £9.50 for a pie with kids meals from £5) but the food is clearly better quality and is locally sourced where possible too. They are open from 10am – 6pm with a range of breakfast dishes as well as the main menu and this would be the perfect place to ‘brunch’ with a stack of newspapers, a full English Breakfast and lashings of their Beanpress coffee.

There is also ‘Scoops’ for all your ice-cream needs. We were too full to make the most of it but they have a huge range of ice-creams and elaborate sundaes plus made-to-order smoothies and milkshakes – perfect for a hot summer’s day.

This restaurant is a brilliant addition to the lively Poole Park. No need to book (although I suspect it maybe busy on a very sunny weekend day), just turn up and enjoy the views!
