Tucked away in the Tudor Arcade (Dorchester) is a small & thriving business selling some amazing teas & coffee’s. Now that may not sound very exciting, but The Gilded Teapot has still retained that sort of exotic mystery that the previous occupiers the tobacconist had. Lots of enticing teas and coffees, all in neat rows, waiting to titillate your taste buds.

Jo Davies started the business two years ago and to be still trading in these traumatic times is truly a sign she is doing it right!

This little shop boasts over 130 different teas and around 20 coffees to choose from, Jo said the numbers fluctuate depending on the season. Yes she supplies only the freshest possible teas.

Choosing your tea from the 130 sounds again a daunting task, but each tea has a small sample jar that you can open and smell. I chose her best seller, Dorset Brew, which is a blend of Assam, Ceylon and Sumatran teas!

All of Jo’s coffee is locally roasted by The Dorset Coffee Company who have been roasting coffee since 1988 and I can highly recommend the Papua New Guinea Sigri Arabica.

The Gilded Teapot also sells all the accessories required to make the perfect cup of tea or coffee, including a rather space age Aeropress Coffee Maker, which Jo says really does produce a great cup of coffee and is what she prefers over tea to start the day! (PS> great Christmas present for a coffee lover, Jo stocks lots of other wonderful Christmassy goodies!!)

So next time you are in Dorchester pop in and say Hi to Jo, she will help select the tea or coffee thats just right for you, she can also brew you a cup to take-away…

  1. This shop is a true gem in Dorchester. Jo is lovely and very helpful. Bought my wife a tea hamper for Christmas including a beautiful teapot which went down a storm. The takeaway drinks are also very refreshing and very different. Please use this wonderful shop ahead of Costa!
