At the launch party for The Stable, Nikki Cooper said we must try a meal in The Bull Hotel, Bridport and she even sent us a voucher for a meal for two. Brilliant and we decided to save it for our wedding anniversary.

Yesterday was our anniversary and in the evening boarded the No 31 Foodie bus down to Bridport and it dropped us off right outside. In we went and what a fantastic reception from the waitress and we were shown to our table. (they were really cheery all night which is great to see) We showed her the voucher and ordered a rather scrummy bottle of Prosecco. We enjoyed the first glass while perusing the menu and tucking into some delightful bread.

We both went for the scallops on pea puree, Vicky selected the rib-eye steak and I (as always) the lemon sole. The scallops where fantastic and the pea puree was nice & peay!

The restaurant was now full and so was the Hotel with an after wedding party going on upstairs.

Mains arrived: Vicky’s steak was tender and well seasoned, but all she had to go with it was a handful of un-dressed rocket, jug of red wine sauce and a bowl of chips! My sole looked fine, but it had a strange smell and it wasn’t until I turned it over that I found a huge roe left inside and it smelt like off liver – yuck! The fish meat was fine but the smell of the roe ruined it for me..

Desserts: Vicky selected the pear tarte tatin with vanilla ice-cream, which was really tasty. I had the local cheese board with crackers and a yummy pickle jelly.

It was disappointing that the mains were not 100% right because it would have been a very pleasant meal to celebrate our anniversary.
