On the third day of rain we ventured out! It has rained for 3 days straight and being stuck indoors with toddlers and CBeebies is making us all feel a little bit odd! So we put our rain coats on and headed to Swanage with the promise of trains and cake.

It was still tipping it down when we arrived, the little one was popped into my sling and the big one was already jumping in a puddle! Down the hill, through the outdoor seating and straight into Swanage Railway’s Bird Nest Cafe.

My son knows the routine, go in and choose a yummy cake and a drink then sit to a table on the old train carriage. The rain was still pouring down as we shared out the large slices of chocolate cake and the Victoria sponge. The slices are not only large but light too.

The staff were friendly and my eldest started talking to a fellow ‘passenger’ about his cake. We had a break in the rain and walked around to the platform side of the station, where a steam train was preparing to depart. We waved it off and visited the shop before heading back to the car before the next down pouring of rain.

I would recommend the Swanage Railway cafe to anyone who enjoys trains and good cake. Especially to anyone who has a Thomas the Tank fan in the family.
