The Dorset Wine Company holds regular wine tasting events throughout the year, they range from informal tasting in the shop to full blown events held at the Corn Exchange. The Spring Wine Tasting event is the latter with over 100 wines (it’s impossible to try them all!) from ten suppliers.
The suppliers are what make this event so much fun, they have so much knowledge & passion about each of their wines, mostly first hand encounters with the actual wine producers. They describe exactly where each variety of grape is grown and during one tasting of New Zealand Pinot Noir, I could imagine the valley where it was grown on the east coast just up from Christchurch – yes it was that good!!
These events are not only for the wine connoisseur it is also a great place for those who enjoy wine to discover more about the many varieties and to taste wines you wouldn’t normally buy. All the wines are sensibly priced with the majority under £10, which you get a 12.5% discount on the night and for an order of 12 bottles you also get your entrance fee of £10 refunded.
My plan each event is to try to discover a wine that will go with a favourite dish, last night I was looking for a nice light red to go with fish (yes you can drink red with fish!) This was soon accomplished with the Savee Sea Pinot Noir Marlborough 2008 a fantastic light red that will go well with a good fish dish.
Huge thanks to Jonathan Charles for a such a great event, thanks also to Melanie Charles for keeping the nibbles table well stocked! Keep an eye on their website for news of further events, there is usually one just before Christmas to fill your stockings!!
