The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival has won yet another award for ‘Tourism Event of the Year’ at the South West Tourism Awards 17/2018. The festival took bronze in this year’s awards, held at the Arena, Riviera International Conference Centre Torquay. There was a record of 647 entries from as far afield as the Isles of Scilly and Wiltshire, Dorset and Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall. In unannounced mystery visits, judges pored over entries, studied website and review sites and looked at use of social media. Reports and recommendations were then submitted to an independent panel which made the final decisions.

The Pommery Dorset Seafood Festival was up against Eat: Festivals in Somerset, Glas-Denbury Music & Arts Festival in Devon, Sherborne Abbey Festival in Dorset and The Contemporary Craft Festival in Devon.
Brian Cooper, Director of Dorset Seafood Festival Ltd commented:
“Winning joint gold in November 2017 at The Dorset Tourism Awards was the icing on the cake for our 10th anniversary, to now win Bronze at the South West Tourism Awards considering the tough competition across Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Bristol in the icing on the cake. These awards provide a very high profile platform for us to continue to market the festival, Dorset and indeed Weymouth Harbour”
The awards were the culmination of a 10-month programme and are also the official scheme for the South West, with many finalists also nominated to represent the region in the national VisitEngland awards in April 2018.
Robin Barker, Director of Services for Tourism Ltd, who manage the Awards, commented: “Excellence is elusive. It requires patience, vision, consistency, commitment, drive, hard work, skill and often a bit of money. That’s not an easy list and I’d like to commend this year’s finalists for once again blowing the socks of the judges. You are a credit to tourism and the region is proud of you.”
