Love Cake Too - Corfe Castle

As Purbeck emerged from the week’s weather battering, we popped to try the Love Cake outpost on East Street for a weekend brunch. Corfe Castle has stood for nearly a millennium and has seen far worse than the Beast from the East or Storm Emma so it was no surprise that Love Cake and the rest of the town were back to normal.

Before 12 there is a wide selection of breakfast/brunch options including a classic fry up, bacon/sausage baguettes or grilled halloumi with tomatoes and fried eggs. We were feeling the chill having only walked from the town square and so the Boston baked beans on toast were my winter warmer while Sarah had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg.

The Boston baked beans were a comforting dish with the sweetness of the onions and tomatoes complemented by the saltiness of bacon lardons. Perfectly poached eggs sat on top of the generous portion of beans with some excellent multi-grain toast. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg was done simply, as it should be.

Later on in the day there is a good lunch menu with various pies, quiches and casserole dishes, all home cooked and served in generous portions. And don’t forget the cakes of course. If the mood takes you, the afternoon tea is excellent having had that previously – one of the best value afternoon teas in Dorset.

As with the original Love Cake in Swanage, the Corfe Castle site has a shabby chic feel, family and dog friendly with a welcoming team. If you’re in Corfe Castle or the surrounding area it’s definitely a good stop off point at any time of the day.
