Our Dorset Foodie blogs are designed specifically so that we can shout about local producers and restaurants and let everyone know what exciting things are going on in our wonderful Dorset. As a food producer myself and having just launched a new range of products, I was looking for ways to tell people… until I remembered that this was exactly what these blogs are for! This is probably one of the only times I’ll blog about my own business (constant self-promotion is definitely NOT what these blogs are about) but this seemed fitting so I hope you’ll forgive me just this once!

My baking company (Heather Brown) was founded 2.5 years ago and I specialise in baking bespoke bakes for businesses. In that time, I have picked up many local clients, baking regularly for staff treats, client meetings, launch parties, Thank You’s, canapes for evening events, breakfast bakes, afternoon tea and large conferences. All my bakes are baked bespoke to order and made from scratch using fresh ingredients, sourced locally where possible – including hand-making all jams and condiments where necessary.

One of my bakes at the launch party – it even happened to be exactly the same as the Technical Challenge on the Great British Bake Off Final!

This year I even got to represent Bournemouth as a Finalist of the Blackmore Vale Media’s Taste of Dorset Awards 2016 and was named as one of the top 3 Bakeries in Dorset!

Every year, just as the country goes crazy with the BBC’s Great British Bake Off, I put together a free sweepstake pack for businesses to download and play along in their offices. Operating just like a sport-based sweepstake, players pay a nominal fee to play and are assigned a baker. When their baker is eliminated then they bake a cake for the office team and the winner wins the pot of money. A few businesses joined in the fun and one Agency even created their own mini-site – bakeoff.saladcreative.com – to celebrate their baking efforts.

People began to request the same bakes over and over and then started asking me for recipes – so I came up with the idea of a new range of Love Cake Baking Kits so that customers can make some of my signature bakes at home. Each kit comes in a beautiful box and contains all of the dry ingredients for the recipe and a recipe card.

To launch the kits, I decided to throw a huge Cake Party, hosted in the beautiful Client Suite at Steele Raymond LLP, where I screened the final of the Great British Bake Off on a big screen and provided plenty of my own bakes and some delicious fizz to wash everything down. I also organised a much bantered about Agency Bake Off.

The Love Cake Agency Bake Off included 8 local business bringing their own bakes and being judged on the night by a plethora of top judges including the top Bakers from the Urban Guild chain of restaurants and Creative guru Matt Desmier. The standard of the bakes was incredibly high and the hosts, Steele Raymond LLP, were eventually crowned the winners with a unanimous decision from the judges. Salad Creative was awarded ‘Highly Commended fror Quality of Bake’ (obviously their practise paid off – see above!) and Redweb were awarded ‘Highly Commended for Creativity’.
