Dorset sparkling wine producer Langham Wine Estate is celebrating success in the 2017 South West Vineyard Association (SWVA) annual competition with two trophies. The Ray Palfrey Cup for the Best Sparkling Wine was awarded to Langham Blanc de Blancs 2014, and The Chairman’s Cup for Best Sparkling Rosé to Langham Rosé 2014. Both are also classed as Gold awards, two of only five awarded throughout the whole competition. In addition the Langham Classic Cuvée 2014 was awarded a Silver.

Owner Justin Langham comments on the recent accolades: “We are delighted to have received these awards which reflect our passion for producing world-class sparkling wines from our Dorset estate. Off the back of this success our attention now turns towards the upcoming harvest and continuing to produce wines of the highest quality. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the SWVA for their ongoing efforts to promote our regional vineyards.”

To produce the Blanc de Blancs 2014, parcels of Langham’s finest Chardonnay were fermented in neutral oak barrels and then bottle aged sur lie for a minimum of 24 months. This wine has a green, lemon colour and a stream of fine bubbles with aromas of greengage, butter pastry and honey. The palate has a fresh citrus backbone layered with toasted hazelnut and grapefruit flavours. This wine is perfect as an aperitif or with light seafood dishes, as demonstrated at the Langham Fish and Fizz evening held last Thursday evening. RRP = £31.

Langham Rosé 2014 is a blend of their finest Pinot Noir (89%) and Chardonnay (11%). This wine has a beautiful salmon pink colour and a fine stream of small bubbles with a rich nose of butter pastry, strawberry and fresh red cherry. The palate is light and refreshing with flavours reminiscent of summer fruit pudding and a complex honeyed richness on the finish. It can be happily enjoyed on its own or with fresh fruit desserts, and has an RRP of £26.

Langham Classic Cuvée 2014 is a blend of the three classic Champagne varieties, Pinot Noir (50%), Pinot Meunier (25%) and Chardonnay (25%). In appearance it has a golden colour with a stream of fine bubbles. The nose has aromas of red apple and brioche giving way to a refreshing palate with luxurious mouthfeel and flavours reminiscent of honeydew melon and poached pear. An elegant acidity brings poise to the palate and provides a mouth-watering finish. RRP = £24.

All three cuvées have an ABV of 12% and are available direct from the winery, the online shop:, or via Marks and Spencer.
