Lagom Deli - Poundbury

Lagom (pronounced [ˈlɑ̀ːɡɔm]) Deli opened in August this year, it specialises in drinks, cured meats, cheeses, sour dough breads and delicious chutneys. The interior is classic Scandinavian, beautifully simple with minimal fuss. I do like a good G&T and when I heard they had Paul Bowler of Winchester Distillery visiting Lagom, to talk about his Twisted Nose Dry Gin, I just had to go along to hear & taste all about it..

Lagom is small and it felt nice a cozy with around 10 eager gin tasters. We started with a warming mixture of Ginger Beer & Twisted Nose, which is a great twist on the traditional G&T.

In the past Paul commuted between Winchester and London, where he worked in IT and after one horrendous day, when he didn’t arrive home until midnight – it was time for him to rethink his career. G&T is one of his favourite drinks and with a growing interest in artisan gins, it was the natural choice and after lots of tastings came up with Twisted Nose. The botanicals used to flavour Twisted Nose are juniper, coriander seeds, grapefruit zest, cassia bark, fennel seed, orris, angelica, Hampshire lavender and Hampshire watercress.

As Paul was describing the different ways that gins can be made and how they are flavoured, Neil was handing round delicious canapés – what a way to spend an evening.

To make the perfect Twisted Nose G&T, first use plenty of ice, a good quality tonic and a slice of grapefruit zest – the perfect drink for that Friday night feeling or you could say Lagom, the Swedish word meaning “just the right amount”.

Do pop in and try a delicious Lagom Deli Board, you will be warmly welcomed by Neil. But they do only open on Saturdays and Sundays 10am – 3pm and Thursday evenings 6pm – 9pm. They also offer deli board lunch deliveries Monday to Friday 11am – 1pm. Delivered to home or work within the Poundbury area on their Danish courier tricycle.
