There is a restaurant over looking Weymouth Town Bridge that has been through many guises over the years and last September it quietly transformed into a Spanish tapas bar. There were no fanfares, no media push, it didn’t need to because word of mouth did the job. It’s simple, Marcelo and Gaynor just serve excellent food in a relaxed manner and at a sensible price, in a restaurant that has great atmosphere, in a fabulous location – the perfect combination!

I was in a group of seven, which made sampling different tapas dishes a lot easier, because of the generous portions you really only need to order a couple of dishes each. Drinks were ordered and the Spanish Sidra had the thumbs up, so did the fruity Rioja and Rose.

We ordered the sharing platter, Plato de flambres y queso and a selection of breads to nibble while we struggled to choose dishes from the menu & specials board – I wanted to order all of them!!

A good selection of dishes were finally ordered and sensibly they were served in batches allowing us to enjoy them all. We had Calamar with zingy allioli, smokey paprika tomato sauce on the patatas bravas. Paella, both chicken & seafood – both sumptuous with a good edge to the rice. A beef stew dish from the specials board that was so tender with good spicy edge to it. A fish dish from the specials board with wonderful light batter casting the fish. Croquettes, vegetable & chicken both delicious with silky béchamel sauce.

We all throughly enjoyed every morsel, we also enjoyed the very relaxed manner of all the staff and wonderful atmosphere in the now full restaurant.

You should try this little gem of a restaurant, but you will need to book because they are full most weekends. This is also a great place for a light lunch, sat in the window watching Weymouth go by.
