Dorset has such an array of wonderful, passionate food producers creating brilliant products! The Dorset Foodie Family team have rustled up some of our favourite great places where you can find some tasty treats for your Christmas table.

Sam Savage…

Last year, my husband and I made the controversial decision not to have turkey for our Christmas dinner. Instead we brought a beef joint and gammon from LFB Meats in Charminster, Bournemouth. They were both absolutely delicious and we now regularly walk our dogs there to pick up some meat for a roast. The dogs love it as they’re always given a treat too!

I already loved Gullivers Farm Shop because of the delicious produce in their shop and deli but when I found out more about the work they do, it makes me want to shout about it more. Gullivers Farm Shop is part of the Sturts Community Trust, who help provide meaningful activities and work opportunities for adults who have a learning disability. So, not only can you buy locally grown produce, you can help the community too!

This is a small business with big taste! I personally love their jam the best but you can’t fault any of their delicious chutney, curd and marmalade – they’d make a great addition to your Christmas tables. Visit their website for a stockist near you:

This is regular in our household anyway, but it wouldn’t be Christmas without James’s truckle cheddar and his soft garlic & chive cheese. The cheddar is very creamy and tasty and the garlic & chive never lasts long in our household.

Our second recommendation has to be cheese too. Isn’t Christmas about cheese? There isn’t better blue cheese than Dorset Blue Vinny!

Lastly I would like to recommend non-foodie product. If you buy any little presents Enchanted Plants have great handmade soaps and not only are the soaps lovely but they are packaged completely plastic free too. We love the soaps and the zero waste they create.

We are big gin drinkers in our family and always have a bottle of Conker Gin on the go. Since discovering it  2 years ago we have converted quite a few of our family members so it actually makes an excellent, easy Christmas present. The brand has recently added two new products – a Port Barrel Gin produced by using Port barrels that impart fruit and oak spices to the flavour, and a Navy Strength gin (57%) created in partnership with the RNLI. Conker Spirit are donating £5.00 to the RNLI for every bottle sold so its fantastic to be able to support a local company by buying and enjoying their product but also as keen water sport enthusiasts, we are supporting this amazing charity too.

Salt Pig/Salt Pig Too in Wareham/Swanage are locally sourced butchers, fishmongers & deli including White Park Beef, Mangazalita Pork, game and day boat fish and shellfish as well as fantastic turkeys at Christmas of course! They have really interesting cuts of meat with prime joints as well as wonderful slow cook cuts, my favourite being their shin of beef.

Based in Swanage, these chocs are beautiful and delicious – it really is chocolate heaven and they have all sorts of festive treats this year too.

They have an excellent range of local cheeses, chutneys and other foodie bits and pieces.

I love my local farm shop. They sell wonderful hand-reared local meat, have a large selection of organic vegetables and also serve daily fresh bread, sourced from a small independent bakery in Burley. If you go for a fresh wintry walk in the New Forest soon, stop in on your way back and visit their coffee shop – there’s are many yummy handmade cakes and pastries!

Based at the start of Winton high street, this butcher stock a fabulous selection of local meats, sauces, honey and eggs. If they don’t have it in stock or you are looking for an unusual cut, they will source it for you and all their meat is fabulous. My free range turkey is already booked – make sure you book yours too!

On the edge of Christchurch, this wine shop is a treasure trove of amazing wines including many of our brilliant local Dorset wines. If you need any help pairing wines with your food, then they really know their stuff and offer a range of wines in different price brackets to suit most budgets – make sure you stock up for your Christmas Day.

A fabulous gluten free producer with many products that are dairy free too. Everything tastes amazing and made with a passion for flavour and quality. You can find Ma Bolton herself at the Wimborne Farmer’s Market on Saturday 15th December with a range of items and fresh bakes. You can also buy her quince marmalade, her signature ‘Marma’gin’ marmalade and some of her flavoured syrups at Gulliver’s Farm Shop, Fluffets Farm Shop, Pamphill Dairy and West Moors Farm Shop. If you are in West Dorset, you can get her pastry mixes and Gluten and dairy free, low sugar mincemeat at the Old Piggery in Lytchett Matravers.
