I recently had the pleasure of experiencing some seriously good street food on an industrial estate; the most unlikely location for a good lunch, most would agree. My new eatery is a 1959 vintage French Citroen H van, and is parked up on the Nuffield Industrial Estate, every Wednesday. Lunch is served from 11.30am until 2.30pm and the menu is the perfect size.
The source of this tip-off came from a friend, who heard good things from another friend, and so on, and so on. In trusting ‘word of mouth’ for being the best source of food discovery, we headed out for lunch with Matt Davey, the driving force behind the Flaming Peaches brand.
This was excellent timing because I was recently invited by my good friend to write reviews about food and local produce for The Dorset Foodie Family. Excited; I was going to embrace Nigella’s musings and please myself in order to please others. The Flaming Peaches were going to be the first on my hit list.
I located Matt in his kitchen where he was pulling some homemade pies out of the oven. I paused for a moment in appreciation for the little pastry heroes before we started talking about our passions for all things food and the vibrancy of street food worldwide.
After working well over a decade as a chef in some of the regions Michelin starred restaurants, Matt went solo in 2014. His mission was not to create a brand that revolved around a single interest, but instead he wanted to embrace food in its entirety and serve honest food with true enthusiasm – anywhere. It was evident that Matt was tired of the norm and set out to fulfil his insatiable passion for street food and a new hungry following.
Now lets tuck in! I have got to start here first – Croquettes just got serious!
These tender smoked beef and apple wood cheese croquettes were delicious bites on their own or as a side. We’re talking smoked braised chunks of beef, surrounded by apple wood cheese and creamy mash, with a crispy crumb shell. They definitely delivered on their braise-y, comfort-y promise. And I could go on.
I enjoyed my croquettes with the Double Bacon Jam Cheeseburger. This is a celebratory combo that was all kinds of delicious. It was well flavoured and totally legit. The bacon jam and the burger were a perfect trio of sweet, smoky, salty and flaming; a nice bold mixture of flavours that are served in a brioche bun with a homemade slaw and pickles. Best served with garlic and rosemary fries.
The ‘Pie Of The Week’ was braised beef and pea; fully housed in a tasty golden pastry case. I saw these emerge from the oven and I could not resist having one. The pie was not too big, not too small, full to the brim, and served with a creamy pork fat mash, pickled cabbage and gravy. A carefully considered balance of savoury fats, mildly tangy pickled cabbage and creamy mash. It is the ideal lunch if you want something that is filling and lightly hearty without being too overwhelming.
Last but not least, I had to try the Crispy Fried Mexican Chicken Burger with smashed avocado, a chilli, lime and coriander slaw (sublime), plus some secret ingredients that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. The chicken was indeed crispy on the outside and the brined thighs made for a deliciously tender burger. I paired this with the holloumi fries. Win/Win.
In addition to all of the great offerings above, there are meat free options too. I am saving the best until last here, and will go back and try this – The Falafel, Hummus, Coriander and Slaw Wrap!

Eight Arch Brewing – Wimborne
Every Friday night the flaming van can be found serving up their delicious menu at Eight Arch Brewing HQ, an award winning craft beer brewery. They can be found at Unit 3A Stone Lane Industrial Estate, Wimborne, from 4pm until 8pm. Match made in heaven!
Dean Court – Wimborne
November dates have just been released for their Friday Fish Supper Clubs at this beautiful private estate. Matt offers a set menu for £35 and you can BYO (bring your own booze). Suppers start at 7pm.
