Cured and smoked product displays always draw me in and while wandering around Poundbury Farmers Market I spotted Dorset Charcuterie’s display.
I wasn’t disappointed and there before me were kippers, ham’s, sausages, pork and a huge white pudding and a huge black pudding! I’m not a keen fan of white pudding, I always worry what is actually in them! So I bought a couple of kippers and some lovely looking smoked ham.
While I was paying Lee suggested I buy some of the white & black pudding, I told him I wasn’t a big fan. He leaped at the chance and quickly wrapped me a slice of each for me to try, he said to stack them with a slice of fried bread and top with a poached egg. He asked me to report back on what I thought, that would be easy using twitter! Lee & Ben are both fishermen and are as enthusiastic about that as they are charcuterie, so the talk quickly switched to fishing until more customers arrived.
Sunday morning and at last some badly needed rain had arrived, time to fry my puddings! After cooking them a few minutes each side and then topping with a poached egg, the finished ‘stack’ looked tasty. Then the all important knife into the egg to ooze out the yolk over the sausage. The taste of the white sausage was as expected when you check out the ingredients, wonderful and gamey, add in the sweeter black pudding with the silky yolk – heaven. This is a great hearty winters breakfast, but not the best meal for anyone who is thinking of dieting!!!
Check out their website to see their complete range of foodie goodies – they will smoke & cure just about anything that once moved!!
