The Brewery Square is developing into a real asset for Dorchester, bringing in crowds of people everyday of the week visiting the multitude of restaurants & fast food establishments. Côte Brasserie is another group that has just opened a restaurant in the Square and specialises in authentic classic French brasserie dishes with a modern twist, using high quality produce at great prices.

We love France & French food, so we booked a table to celebrate my birthday. On first impressions the restaurant is bright & modern and best of all there is plenty of room around each table.

Our table was booked for 19:00 so we missed their bargain value lunch & evening menu (Mon-Fri 12:00 – 19:00) – 2 courses £9.95 – 3 courses £11.90 !!! So we opened up the A La Carte Menu and inside there is a great selection of French classics, French onion soup, Moules, Crepes, Steaks and Poulet ‘Breton’ (corn fed chickens from Brittany).

Choosing was difficult, but I finally went for Brandade, breaded salt cod and potato cake. Vicky had her usual goats cheeses, this time served on chargrilled sour dough and topped with black olive tapenade. For mains I chose the roasted pork belly and Vicky selected roast duck breast.

Their wine list ranged from £14.95 through to £70.00 and of course all French wines & beers! I selected the Chateau Treviac 2011 Corbieres and was told that this was the favourite of the owner of Cote. They really do have good taste because it was a stunning red wine for £21.95.

My Brandade was excellent served with chargrilled red peppers, baby artichokes and sat on top was a perfect runny poached egg. Vicky’s goats cheese was also excellent, again with artichokes and crispy watercress salad.

Oh when I saw my plate of belly pork arriving I just knew I was going to enjoy it and I most certainly did! It was served with caramelised apples, potato & chive mash and a wonderful Calvados sauce – hmmmm! Vicky’s duck was cooked to perfection and the accompanying cherry sauce was delicious..

For dessert I had the Tarte au Citron and a surprise candle to celebrate my birthday! The tart was proper lemony heaven with a good caramelised crunchy topping. Vicky loves her crepes and this one was served with orange, Grand Marnier & vanilla ice cream – delicious!

We really enjoyed our evening at Cote, the service was brilliant and all the staff were great, especially Amber – yes we will be going back again to Cote to enjoy a little bit of France in Dorset.
