Holed up inside a cosy bar with a great friend, a delicious meal and a glass of wine was the perfect antidote to the rainy, cold Wednesday evening in January… but I am positive that it would also be pretty perfect on a warm summer’s evening too. Re-discovering the Camden on Westbourne’s bustling high street was definitely not a chore!

The Camden in Westbourne is a sister bar to the Camden in Ashley Cross; a small, local chain that has been blessing our high streets since 2011. They began with the idea of creating a relaxed and friendly bar with good quality coffee, food and beer… and I think they have definitely achieved that goal!

In Westbourne, the Camden has an urban twist with plenty of beautifully worn wooden tables and 50’s style booths. They have a large and well stocked bar, as well as knowledgable bar staff so our drink needs were well taken care off. We were pretty boring with just a white wine and peppermint tea, but I am confident that a bespoke cocktail would have been created with just as much ease.

The menu is a combination of Tex Mex and well made Burgers, with a touch of Thai thrown in for good measure. Their breakfast menu was seriously tempting  (served until 1pm) with a wide range of options including plenty of pancake choices (yum). They also have wraps and sandwiches for a lighter lunch option.

I decided to choose the ham, egg and chips off the special board and my friend also chose from the specials, with a vegetarian lasagne. Both dishes were well cooked and my chips in particular, were superb. As a vegetarian, my friend is used to having to choose between a salad or a vegetarian burger and she was very pleased to have a much wider choice and really enjoyed the lasagne.

To follow, I was recommended the cheesecake and was also treated to a small glass of sweet sherry that would perfectly accompany my dessert (it did – it was sublime). My friend had the triple chocolate dessert and was equally as pleased.

We had a wonderful time at the Camden. The music was loud enough to hear without intruding into our evening and with a good mix of well-loved tunes. On Thursdays, they also have a live music (with 241 on burgers) and often have open mic nights too. They have food and drink offers throughout the year which you can keep up to date with on their social media pages (facebook, twitter and instagram).

I had a wonderful time at the Camden and I thoroughly recommend. Their friendly and helpful staff only added to our evening and I will definitely be returning… maybe to try those pancakes… mmmm….
