I first met Rob Scott through CrossFit Weymouth and talk soon drifted over to food. Rob’s resume in the catering business is impressive, he started attending a NVQ Course in Weymouth, before appearing in the inaugural Masterchef Professionals where he reached the quarter finals. This jump started his career, he then lived & worked in Australia, Bermuda and the U.S.A. As well as providing fine dining at top level hotels in the U.K. he has been Private Chef to a family of 6. Most recently he was at the 4* Moonfleet Manor Hotel in Weymouth.
Rob now has his own business Brown Goose Catering, providing home catering at it’s finest, from children’s parties to gourmet dinner parties. Check out his range of menus, these can be changed to personal choice, but they do give you an idea of the quality of Rob’s food. So you can see why, when he announced that he was having a gourmet night at The Palm House, Weymouth I booked 4 tickets on the spot!
Rob had sold all his tickets for his first gourmet night and there was a great atmosphere in The Palm Room. We were given a welcoming glass of Prosecco, along with a selection of canapés.
Spicy tuna tartare in savoury cornets, Cucumber with Artichoke Mousse, Seared Salmon with Beetroot puree and Horseradish Cream, Deviled Quails Egg and Roast Duck Breast en Croute; but it was the Spicy Tuna that we enjoyed the most – moreish! (nails by The Shed Boutique, Symondsbury)
The appetizer was a spring fresh garden pea soup with mint oil, full of spring flavours, smooth and deliciously light.
First course I had Portland Crab and Tarragon Mayonnaise, White Asparagus and Watercress Salad. It was a good sized portion of white meat and you tell it was fresh from the sea.
Faye had the alternative a Poached Duck Egg instead of the crab, the rich duck egg was perfectly cooked and served. We were also offered three different breads, Champagne, Rye and a date bread.
For a nice surprise we were then served a bonus course of cucumber jelly, topped with diced water melon, a real palate freshener!
Main course we all chose the Loin of West Country Lamb, Braised Shoulder, Fondant Potato, Spinach and Lamb Jus. The braised shoulder was so tender it just fell apart and for me was the best bit of the meal. The loin was delicately pink and very tender, it just melted in your mouth. It was all so delicious we failed to get a photograph of it, luckily a friend had snapped one for us…..!
We then enjoyed a Pre-Dessert of Lime Sorbet and a Pineapple Salsa, that had a little kick of chilli and it set us up nicely to enjoy the main dessert.
Dessert was a Yoghurt Panna Cotta, Blueberry and Orange salad, Coconut Tuile. The Panna Cotta had a great wobble & flavour and the Coconut Tuile was awesome!
We ended the meal with coffee & Petit Fours and all for £35!!! Rob appeared for a quick speech and a well deserved round of applause! He is hoping to do another Gourmet evening sometime in the summer, so watch this space for the announcement!
