More than just your five a day…..
Smoothies….juice cleanses….chia seeds….almond milk….a few years ago these words would have appeared in various magazine articles portraying the ultimate healthy lifestyle of hip LA celebrities and Australian models….we’d roll our eyes thinking yet another foodie fad that most of us would never buy into. But. Our mindsets have slowly began to change and the realisation that a smoothie/juice cleanse lifestyle is in fact obtainable for all….
Situated in the heart of Ashley Cross, Poole, is Blue Orange Juice Bar. A bar that isn’t just frequented by lycra clad Pilate students, but by children and adults alike who are loving the catchy named smoothies of the Ginger Ninja, Fizzle Shizzle and the Green Doctor. All are realising that the combination of delicious fruit blended to perfection is not just good for us but they taste amazing also!
I had the pleasure of meeting and chatting to owner and founder of Blue Orange Juice Bar, Jacqui Greenhaf, and spent the morning behind the scenes at Ashley Cross’ popular go-to juice bar.
How long have you been established and how did Blue Orange Juice Bar come about?
We opened our doors at the end of March 2017.
After many years living in Australia, mainly Bondi, Sydney, we were used to having the luxury of walking out of our home and straight in to a number of cafes that served juices, smoothies and delicious healthy food. The options in Bondi in particular were endless, making it so easy to live a healthy lifestyle.
After moving to Dorset in April 2014, we found that these options were few and far between, so decided that we wanted to open up a juice bar, where people had access to delicious healthy, tasty food and drinks that they could grab and go.
We found the property that we wanted in 2016, and set our mind to making Blue Orange Juice Bar happen, and here we are!
What can customers expect to buy?
They will find original juice and smoothie recipes, made from delicious fruit and vegetables, locally sourced. They will find healthy, wholesome food, such as: wraps, salads, toasts, breakfast pots, unusual snack options and plenty of yummy dessert options too. Most of our food is vegan friendly and all made from natural ingredients.
We keep almost all of our suppliers local too, so that we ensure to support the local business community.
What’s your favourite aspect of running your own business?
Every day is a learning curve for all of us at Blue Orange, our customers are forever educating us and guiding us in the direction they would like us to move in. I guess, for me, the most satisfying aspect of running the juice bar is meeting so many amazing people, who care about the world we live in and what goes in to their bodies.
You’re stranded on a desert island. What 5 foods/drinks would you want with you from your juice bar?
I would have to take a supply of: Green Giant smoothies (spinach, kale, pineapple, banana, spirulina and fresh apple juice). One-Eye Opener juices (cucumber, fennel, ginger, lemon, orange). BLAT wraps (coconut bacon — absolutely delicious!! — lettuce, avocado, tomato, chipotle dressing). Carrot, ginger and black sesame bread (Tansy’s Kitchen). Then either a peanut butter vegan heart cake (Vegan Heart Cakes), or a chilli, chipotle and cinnamon brownie (Dark Matters)
What’s next for Blue Orange Juice Bars?
Well, we don’t want to give away too much, but we would like to have another juice bar opened in Dorset by the end of 2017 — so watch this space!
