A couple of weeks ago, we decided to head to Lyme regis for a quick Sunday lunch. I’ve visited the Alexandra hotel a few years ago, so I was keen to test out of the food.
The hotel was busy and we were lucky to be given such a spacious and well positioned table in the sunny conservatory. On a nice day, this is a really beautiful space, showcasing the amazing scenery of Lyme Regis harbour and gardens.
Recently, the Alex has been attracted a lot of positive attention about its food – and this Sunday was no different.
For starter, I enjoyed a curried mussel and mackerel broth – a combination I have never had before, but it worked very well together, allowing the stunning local fish to be the star of the show (as it should be!).
I had a delicious pork dish, with pork loin, confit shallots, potato puree and black pudding. The pork has deliciously tender, the potato was perfectly creamy and excellent for soaking up the rich pork jus. Along with all the other dishes, it looked so appetitising and was a perfect sized portion to leave a little room for pud!
To finish, we had a raspberry cheesecake. This was a light, mousse consistency, bursting with the flavour of fresh raspberries.
